I
am
an
intersex
person.
For
most
of
my
life,
I
didn't
have
a
label
for
what
I
was
experiencing.
Growing
up,
I
didn't
fit
into
the
binary
notions
of
gender
that
were
imposed
upon
me.
I
didn't
feel
fully
male
or
female,
and
my
body
didn't
conform
to
the
typical
expectations
of
either
gender. It
wasn't
until
I
learned
about
intersex
people
and
their
experiences
that
I
finally
had
a
word
to
describe
myself.
Intersex
is
an
umbrella
term
that
includes
people
who
have
biological
sex
characteristics

don't
fit
typical
male
or
female
categories.
This
can
include
differences
in
hormones,
chromosomes,
or
reproductive
organs. Learning
about
intersex
people
was
a
life-changing
experience
for
me.
It
helped
me
realize
that
I
wasn't
alone
in
my
experiences,
and
that
there
were
others
out
there
like
me.
It
also
gave
me
the
freedom
to
embrace
my
identity
and
stop
feeling
like
I
had
to
fit
into
a
box. However,
being
intersex
still
comes
with
challenges.
There
is
a
lack
of
understanding
and
acknowledgement
of
intersex
people,
and
medical
professionals
often
see
intersex
variations
as
a
problem
that
needs
to
be
fixed
through
surgeries
and
hormone
treatments.
This
can
cause
harm
and
trauma
to
intersex
people,
who
may
feel
like
their
bodies
are
being
altered
without
their
consent. Despite
these
challenges,
I
am
proud
to
embrace
my
identity
as
an
intersex
person.
I
know
that
my
experiences
and
my
body
are
valid,
and
that
I
should
never
have
to
apologize
or
hide
who
I
am.
By
sharing
my
story,
I
hope
to
raise
awareness
and
acceptance
of
intersex
people,
and
to
help
others
like
me
feel
seen
and
heard.
